How long are we in India now? And can the number of days be the right measure for the experiences that we make? Shouldn’t we find a special measuring tool for each place we go to? Today, 05 jan 2011, we brought Frida to Nauen, a small small small village in Brandenburg, Germany – currently covered in snow – and definitely a very quiet place. Dear friends of aviation. We are proud to present our favorite steward in Berlin, announcing the tiny little delay we experienced during our last travel. Just a matter of patience. Comfortably seated in the aircraft for 3 hours (before take of!) this announcement was just the beginning of several hundreds of apologies. Oh and how delicious it was to be served “Christstollen” and chocolate for breakfast… Even if this video is already 2 weeks old, it still is very up to date. We made a beautiful trip yesterday to the village of Ijoukak – a 2hour ride into the mountains. Sitting in our Mercedes taxi (Madame, this is a German car!!!) – we were driven through the winding roads, constantly up up up by our driver Said. Frida, we had to think of you a lot! A Mercedes is a Mercedes and the brother of a Mercedes. But this time, we were glad that we did not have to navigate the car ourselves. Finally, we arrived. We are complete now. While Tine had already spent some days on intense research in Marrakech, the rest of the crew was supposed to arrive in the city on Thursday around noon. Due to severe snow chaos in Berlin, the flight was delayed, the connection in Zürich was missed, and an odyssey began. After flying from Berlin to Zürich, from Zürich to Madrid, from Madrid to Casablanca, and Casablanca to Marrakech, Johannes, Anna and Dominic arrived in Marrakech at midnight. Oh, how nice it was to finally park in front of this spaceship of a school! We were not aware of the fact, that the Open Day is one of the busiest days at HFF Potsdam. Visitors from schools, universities, different countries were there to ask and ask and ask, and watch and see and watch. Our supply of hot chocolate and chai was perfect for the grey autumn weather. Dear people, we’ve arrived back in hometown Berlin. Incredible how fast time runs – already our last day in Amsterdam and we just got used to the city. Before heading out onto the speedway we spent the last morning shooting a few clips of Frida driving along grachten and through downtown and we visited and interviewed a fascinating researcher in the field of social networking, internet and networking in general: Geert Lovink, founding director of the ‘Institute of Network Cultures‘ hosted by the Hogeschool van Amsterdam. We slowly start to adapt to the fiets-chaos, crowded winkels and straats of Amsterdam and already met quite a lot of interesting people around Noordermarkt, among them many who do arts in different ways. We also met Sherwin from Iran – who is stuck in the Netherlands, because he can’t return to his home country. It was foggy, cold, and humid when we left St. Valentin in search for a small Austrian town where we could set up our video-installation next. On the way through the Alps we decided to not set up anywhere because of the bad weather and instead head further North – as far as possible. Highest point of our route was the Reschenpaß where we refueled Frida and rolled down towards Germany through impressive mountains and valleys. Our last day in San Miniato was a bit stressful, because more interviews were needed and also more city-impressions – and there was supposed to be bad weather in the early evening. While Dominic guarded Frida and did some preparations for our upcoming trip to Amsterdam, Tine, Anna, Johannes, and Irene did some interviews in the city and Flux recorded some surround-sound-’atmos’. During our week in San Miniato we had Irene with us, a volunteer interpreter and translator who helped us out a lot approaching people on the streets for interviews, sorting out issues with local authorities and for general language questions.
