» approaching final cut! finally

computergott

It’s been a wild spring and summer – not physically, because Tine and Valesca spent most of the time sitting in front of computer screens. But now it is almost done. The MishMashMovie is about to be finished! It’s come out beautifully – a multicultural mishmash of impressions and opinions. But yet pretty different than we had expected in the first place. Some decisions were easier some were really hard to make. And in the end, it is the same with every creative work: it has a life on its own…. = you never know what exactly it will look … Continue reading

» Where to start? And where to end?

IMG_2419k

How long are we in India now? And can the number of days be the right measure for the experiences that we make? Shouldn’t we find a special measuring tool for each place we go to? Possible measures for our shooting in India could be: chai’s/day: ~ 6 (which makes 42 a week, which makes 84 in total) people stepping in front of the camera, asking to be portrayed/ day: ~ 15 km’s in a rikshaw/ day: ~ 20 honks/ day: ~ 317.000 being asked which country we are from/ day: ~ 25 times (reply in 99% of the cases: … Continue reading

» Get Wednesday! (Of virtual assistants and real experiences.)

Bildschirmfoto 2011-01-19 um 18.30.56

What could that be? A virtual assistant? One of these 3D-animated computervoiced guys who lead you through the installation process of the very unnecessary software that comes with your new printer? An assistant who exists in your mind only? Until this morning I had no idea – all I knew was: there is this company in Bangalore, called GetFriday – and they are doing it! There we were, inside a very real office, speaking to very real people, who were telling us about their very real experiences as virtual assistants. A virtual assistant ( by definition of GetFriday) is someone … Continue reading

Day 1 in India. diz•zy |ˈdizē| adjective ( -zier , -ziest ) having or involving a sensation of spinning around and losing one’s balance Losing one’s balance is an effect which happens when certain parameters suddenly increase to unexpected size. So now: We feel diz•zy. And there are definitely multiple reasons for that. 01. Significant lack of sleep: the amount of sleep the four of us had the past 2 nights would not be sufficient for 1 person/ 1 night. 02. Noise level: constantly overdriven. Due to extreme honking and the time spent on the road/ in the rikshaw. 03. … Continue reading

» Winter Sleep

00

Today, 05 jan 2011, we brought Frida to Nauen, a small small small village in Brandenburg, Germany – currently covered in snow – and definitely a very quiet place. We were singing lullabies to her throughout the way. An this is where she will now have her winter sleep. Please, little big Frida, have a good sleep and see… you again soon. When spring has come. We will wear t-shirts and sunglasses and we will bring homemade lemonade when we pick you up. By that time we will have forgotten about how long it took us to free you from … Continue reading

» Marrakesh reviewed

Dear friends as we are all sitting at home, in the snowy icy winter Germany now – celebrating the christmas days with our family, it seems hard to believe that only 1 week ago we left Marrakesh. We are dreaming of palmtrees and dates and trying to make our own mint tea. And we keep on replaying the following video, which we HAVE to share with you. Enjoy. And big love to all of you for the festive season.

» delay of a delay of a delay

Dear friends of aviation. We are proud to present our favorite steward in Berlin, announcing the tiny little delay we experienced during our last travel. Just a matter of patience. Comfortably seated in the aircraft for 3 hours (before take of!) this announcement was just the beginning of several hundreds of apologies. Oh and how delicious it was to be served “Christstollen” and chocolate for breakfast… Even if this video is already 2 weeks old, it still is very up to date. Lots of Love and Warmth to all people stuck in airports all over the world right now!

» Ijoukak

ijoukak00

We made a beautiful trip yesterday to the village of Ijoukak – a 2hour ride into the mountains. Sitting in our Mercedes taxi (Madame, this is a German car!!!) – we were driven through the winding roads, constantly up up up by our driver Said. Frida, we had to think of you a lot! A Mercedes is a Mercedes and the brother of a Mercedes. But this time, we were glad that we did not have to navigate the car ourselves. These roads are different and the cars and trucks inhabiting them are also different. But thanks to Said we … Continue reading

» Marrakech!!!

ESAV

Finally, we arrived. We are complete now. While Tine had already spent some days on intense research in Marrakech, the rest of the crew was supposed to arrive in the city on Thursday around noon. Due to severe snow chaos in Berlin, the flight was delayed, the connection in Zürich was missed, and an odyssey began. After flying from Berlin to Zürich, from Zürich to Madrid, from Madrid to Casablanca, and Casablanca to Marrakech, Johannes, Anna and Dominic arrived in Marrakech at midnight. With a delay of 12 hours – but without any luggage. All checked in equipment and all … Continue reading

» Our day at HFF

MMM-Crowd-2

Oh, how nice it was to finally park in front of this spaceship of a school! We were not aware of the fact, that the Open Day is one of the busiest days at HFF Potsdam. Visitors from schools, universities, different countries were there to ask and ask and ask, and watch and see and watch. Our supply of hot chocolate and chai was perfect for the grey autumn weather. Mission accomplished. Successfully doped everyone with cinnamon, serotonin and that special ingredient of pink mishmash!! Those who were sitting in our Frida livingroom did not want to leave – new … Continue reading

» Hello Berlin, hello autumn!

mmm_autumn

Dear people, we’ve arrived back in hometown Berlin. At the moment, we find ourselves sitting in the middle of a big nebulous cloud of impressions, stories, touching experiences, beautiful people that we met on the way. We are preparing a huge bowl of tea, trying to get used to the comfort of our own apartments again (how big is this bed, how huge is this room now???). We will spend a few days and weeks on scanning through the material, discussing with our editors and preparing for the next big shots: We are planning two more trips. This time a … Continue reading

» Guten Morgen Buchholz

Geert Lovink

Incredible how fast time runs – already our last day in Amsterdam and we just got used to the city. Before heading out onto the speedway we spent the last morning shooting a few clips of Frida driving along grachten and through downtown and we visited and interviewed a fascinating researcher in the field of social networking, internet and networking in general: Geert Lovink, founding director of the ‘Institute of Network Cultures‘ hosted by the Hogeschool van Amsterdam. The ride back to Germany went fairly quickly until around 40 kilometers before Osnabrück, Frida got a heavy hickup and we had to … Continue reading

» Fietsen

Amsterdam 3

We slowly start to adapt to the fiets-chaos, crowded winkels and straats of Amsterdam and already met quite a lot of interesting people around Noordermarkt, among them many who do arts in different ways. We also met Sherwin from Iran – who is stuck in the Netherlands, because he can’t return to his home country. Our installation yesterday afternoon was appreciated by the bypassing pedestrians, who were not many, but the ones who played with it enjoyed it a lot. Video-artist and disk-jockey Alex even recognised an old friend from Berlin whose face was in the installation – what a … Continue reading

» 1500 meters down North

sunken church in Vinschgau

It was foggy, cold, and humid when we left St. Valentin in search for a small Austrian town where we could set up our video-installation next. On the way through the Alps we decided to not set up anywhere because of the bad weather and instead head further North – as far as possible. Highest point of our route was the Reschenpaß where we refueled Frida and rolled down towards Germany through impressive mountains and valleys. When we passed the border and hit the Autobahn, the cloudy sky cracked open and sun and blue sky was above our heads. Anna … Continue reading

» The Mountain’s Calling

Camilla

Our last day in San Miniato was a bit stressful, because more interviews were needed and also more city-impressions – and there was supposed to be bad weather in the early evening. While Dominic guarded Frida and did some preparations for our upcoming trip to Amsterdam, Tine, Anna, Johannes, and Irene did some interviews in the city and Flux recorded some surround-sound-’atmos’. We got incredibly delicious free pizza with cheese, rucola and fresh tomatos at the nice caffe near the Piazza del Popolo where we had stopped by almost everyday for our emergency snack- and caffeine dosage and shot a … Continue reading

» Ciao Irene

Irene 3

During our week in San Miniato we had Irene with us, a volunteer interpreter and translator who helped us out a lot approaching people on the streets for interviews, sorting out issues with local authorities and for general language questions. On our way up North towards the Alps – before we dropped her off in her hometown Merano later, I managed to record a short interview. Flux: First of all, please introduce yourself. Irene: I am Irene. I come from South Tyrol. Somehow I slid into this project to try out to be an interpreter for the Italian language. Flux: … Continue reading
